This is a series of animated instructional videos I've been working on for a bidet company..
BonaBidet provided me with various types of bidets which I measured, sketched, modeled, textured and animated using Fusion 360 and Blender. I then import the final image sequences into Hitfilm Express and add textual instructions. The final raw videos are then handed over to the client for use on their website.
I started by modeling everything you see in the bathroom above using an IKEA catalog for inspiration.
My tool of choice for modeling components is Fusion 360. It has an intuitive top-down approach and makes creating sketches and hard surface modeling easy. Components are easily separated for exporting / importing into Blender.
Once in Blender, the texturing begins. Texturing is pretty straight forward for this project as the parts are mostly made from plastic, stainless steel, and rubber. The visual advantage of nodes really helps streamline the process.
Next up, animation. There's nothing really "organic" in these projects other than the hoses, so animation is a breeze. I render at 25fps and animate each instruction for about 1 second with a 5 frame pause in between (to be stretched later). The entire animation is exported as a .png sequence.
I usually do a "solid" OpenGL render / video edit first so the client can see a general story board of what the final sequence will look like and sign it off. Final renders take a long time! It's better to make any final client changes before diving into a 1-2 day render.
The final step in the process is video editing. I import the image sequence into Hitfilm Express and add text overlays for each set of instructions. The 5 frame pause I mentioned earlier is stretched to allow the user to read each instruction before seeing it in action.
And here's the final product!
